Read the projection correctly

At each month-end, existing subscribers churn, the new paid cohort joins, and every remaining subscriber pays once. New subscribers first face churn the following month. Trial conversion happens within the acquisition month; fractional subscribers represent expected averages.

MRR is the recurring monthly value at that point in time. Receipts are payments modeled for a period; the two match for each month under this simple monthly billing convention. Refunds reduce receipts but do not independently change subscriber counts. Annual plans, tax, billing delays, fee tiers, and additional usage costs are excluded.

How to use this tool

  1. Describe the funnel

Set monthly installs, the share starting a trial, and the share of trials becoming paid subscriptions.

  2. Set price and costs

Add a monthly price, subscriber churn, fees, refunds, acquisition spend, and fixed operating costs.

  3. Review the full year

Compare the monthly subscriber and revenue trajectory with the cumulative costs. Export the projection for further planning.

A monthly subscription scenario

The model starts with no subscribers and adds the same number of new paying subscribers each month. Existing subscribers churn before new subscribers are added. Every active subscriber is billed once in the modeled month; trial timing is simplified into that monthly period.

Recurring revenue and cash have different jobs

MRR describes the recurring monthly revenue of active subscriptions before deductions. Cumulative revenue adds the modeled billings across months. This tool models monthly plans only; annual prepayments, plan changes, trial delays, and cohort-specific renewal patterns need a more detailed model.

A few useful details

Are the starting conversion and churn rates benchmarks?

No. They are illustrative inputs. Use your own trial, paid-conversion, and renewal data where possible, and compare several plausible scenarios before planning a budget.

Are RevenueCat or other vendor fees included automatically?

No vendor pricing is fetched or inferred. Include applicable costs in your inputs and check the provider's billing basis separately. Platform fees and vendor fees may apply to different revenue amounts.
